The need is there, and the U.P. Alpha Phi Omega Foundation seeks to fill that need. That, of course, refers to the direction many a college student seeks.
The employer will, in the course of searching for possible recruits, invariably evaluate a college student according to the field of study, prior work experience, type of college attended, relevance of courses take, and progression rate.
However, career advancement would be determined by other, more intrinsic, qualities that may either be positive, or negative in the many ways some see as a og-eat-dog culture in some circles. The U.P. APO Foundation is premised on the belief that these qualities ought to be centered on a well-grounded character, untarnished values, exceptional leadership and management skills, and a genuine commitment to pursue the greater good.
Thus the Foundation was formed with an advocacy for youth development at its core. Already, several scholars are benefitting from the foundation’s program. Future plans include leadership and management seminars, discipline-specific training opportunities, character and values formation conferences, and outreach programs.
The establishment of the U.P. Alpha Phi Omega Foundation marks another milestone in the fraternity’s long tradition of service, in support of the university in its mission to churn out the next leaders of the country. (Reprinted from the Philippine Star, October 19, 2007)
